Why Tallow Deserves a Spot in Your Skincare Routine

— especially if you’re new around here

Before we dive in, I want to say this: If you’re one of our longtime customers, some of what you’ll read here may feel familiar—and that’s intentional. A little re-education is never a bad thing when it comes to the why behind what we put on our skin. And if you're new to Tallow&Honey (hi, market friends!), this post is especially for you.

With so many of you coming through the booth over the past two weekends, I didn’t always have time to fully explain what makes tallow so special. So here it is—all in one place.

What is tallow—and why does it work so well?

Tallow is a rendered form of beef fat, but don’t let that throw you. When it’s sourced from healthy, grass-fed animals and rendered properly (which ours always is), tallow becomes one of the most nourishing, skin-compatible moisturizers you can find.

It’s packed with skin-loving nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K—all essential for skin function, regeneration, and resilience. These vitamins are naturally occurring in tallow and biologically compatible with human skin, so your body actually knows how to absorb and use them.

Let’s Break Down the Vitamins in Tallow:

  • Vitamin A supports cell turnover, helps clear clogged pores, and promotes smoother, brighter skin.

  • Vitamin D strengthens the skin barrier and supports your skin’s immune system.

  • Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps fight environmental damage and reduce inflammation.

  • Vitamin K promotes elasticity, supports healing, and can help reduce the appearance of scars and discoloration.

These aren’t synthetic vitamins added into a formula—they’re already there, naturally, and in the right ratios for your skin to benefit from.

And What About the Honey?

We use raw, unpasteurized honey for a reason.

Unlike most of the honey you find on the shelves of your grocery store, raw honey still contains live enzymes, antioxidants, amino acids, and antibacterial properties that are incredibly beneficial for your skin.

  • Enzymes help gently exfoliate dead skin cells without irritation

  • Natural sugars and humectants pull moisture into the skin and keep it hydrated

  • Antibacterial properties can support acne-prone or reactive skin without over-drying

Together, tallow and honey create a powerful, natural duo that deeply nourishes and supports the skin barrier—without the need for synthetic ingredients or preservatives.

Tallow vs. Modern Moisturizers: Why Less Is More

Most commercial creams are water-based, meaning they need preservatives, emulsifiers, and stabilizers. That’s how you end up with a long list of ingredients—many of which can irritate sensitive skin or disrupt your natural balance.

Tallow doesn’t need all that. When blended with raw honey, jojoba oil, and castor oil, it becomes a rich, effective balm that works with your skin instead of overwhelming it.

You won’t find parabens, fragrance, fillers, or fluff in anything I make. Just organic, intentional ingredients your skin understands.

Meet the Product That Started It All

Honey I’m Glowing is our best-selling whipped face cream for a reason. t’s made with:

  • Grass-fed tallow

  • Raw, unpasteurized honey

  • Organic jojoba, castor & sea buckthorn oils

  • Organic cocoa butter

  • Organic aloe vera

  • Organic lavender essential oil

(Unscented version available too)

It’s rich, yes—but it soaks in beautifully when applied to damp skin. It’s gentle enough for acne-prone or reactive skin, and powerful enough to restore even the driest skin barriers.

Everything in it is 100% organic, and every batch is made by hand in Chilliwack, BC.

Final Thought

Tallow isn’t trendy—it’s timeless. It’s what our great-grandmothers used, and for good reason. At Tallow&Honey, I’m just bringing it back in a way that’s accessible, clean, and grounded in care.

Thanks for being here—and for supporting slow, intentional skincare. Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or just found us at the market this weekend—I’m so glad you’re here.

Sunny,

Tallow&Honey

Less is more. Your skin knows it.
